The Saint Petersburg Chamber Music Society (Obshestvo Kamernoy Muziki - or "OKM"), a professional society for cultural enlightenment, was founded in 1872. Among the founders were the famous composer Nikolay Andreevich Rimsky-Korsakov, violin scholar and performer Leopold Semenovich Auer and conductor and composer Eduard Frantsevich Napravnik. In 2000, some of the best Saint Petersburg musicians revived the Society. OKM Publishers was created in 2004 as part of the Society. After some preliminary research we have discovered that music editions currently available do not meet contemporary targets either for a varied repertoire nor from the point of view of quality. We are of the opinion that the quality of the arrangements is critical to instrumental performance. A number of remarkable musicians have lived and worked in the USSR. Among many others, Henry and Stanislav Neighaus, Vladimir Sofronitsky, Sviatoslav Richter, Emil Gilels, Miron Plyakin, David and Igor Oystrakh, Leonid Kogan, Sviatoslav Kushevitsky, Misha Maisky, Mikhail Gantvarg, Natalya Arzumanova, Sergei Stadler and Mstislav Rostropovich. Together these masters created a great "Performance School". Our goal is to preserve for future generations the performance principles that were established by these masterful musicians, while maintaining a rigorous fidelity to the original composers. Our Agenda provides more information about our method. Our Catalog will include about 100 pieces by 2009. We pay specific attention to the physical quality of our editions, the graphic design and many other specific characteristics of the publications that can only help musicians in their creative process. Our Quality standard describes this in greater detail. We put all of our skills, knowledge and inspiration to the musicians' use, on every page of our editions. |
