OKM  publishers

Menu Thoughtful attention to quality and detail is one of the core values of OKM Publishers, as we are ourselves musicians and create our scores for use by musicians like us.

We have chosen a simple and straight-forward graphic style that reflects the attitude of the OKM to the study of the music. Nothing should distract the focus of the musician from the main subject. The design and implementation of this style is done by the well-known Saint Petersburg book designer, Igor Arkhipov. The resulting design reflects the topography of the city - constructed only in straight lines.

The page layout is arranged to enable musicians to use the text with the greatest convenience in the turning of pages. All the music text is reviewed by concert musicians to insure an optimal display.

We use Gmund paper for our printed scores. We like the style, a most luxurious paper that has a texture and warmth that rivals fabric, yet prints like paper. We wanted the musicians to feel the warmth of our concept. Literally, we have chosen Gmund because it was best that we could find. Inside, the scores are printed on No. 11390 Garda. It is a light cream color paper, easy on the eyes under electric light, and optimal for concert performance. it is markedly superior to the usual offset paper. Our paper absorbs well the ink and does not shine under direct light on stage.

We even also tested various inks by having musicians use them under concert conditions. We chose a matt finish in a custom near-black shade for the text. It proved ideal for any stage, and is still good for home use. We think it also helps to create a natural chamber music atmosphere.

The proofs for all scores that we produce are checked by professors of the Saint Petersburg Conservatory before printing. Quality after printing is checked manually to assure standard conformity. All pages are in order. There are no misplacements, nor missing pages. When manuscript is published, it is a facsimile copy of the original, optimized for reading, to give the performer the greatest possible insight into the intentions of the composer.

We insure that our business practice is as carefully developed as our more artistic work. This is reflected in our Payments, Shipping, Returns & Warranty, and Privacy policies. Our customer service and delivery fulfillment is based in the USA, where we have pre-positioned inventory, and is supplied by native English speakers. We can communicate also in French, Russian, Spanish and German if the customer so requires.
